Secret Invasion Episode 4 Review - 6 Ups & 4 Downs

8. Down - The Writers Are Backed Into A Corner

Secret Invasion Nick Fury
Marvel Studios

Over the last 15 years, the MCU has grown to such a size that there now needs to be explanations as to why characters from other franchises aren't showing up.

Secret Invasion has fought this off for the first few episodes. Fury said this is his fight, and he can't call on the Avengers for help for fear of the Skrulls impersonating and manipulating them. However, this excuse may be on borrowed time now, which isn't a great thing for Nick Fury's story.

The whole point of the Secret Invasion is that it is personal to Fury. Gravik has rebelled and is trying to take over the world because of Fury, and the onus to stop him has fallen squarely at the feet of the former SHIELD director. This is how it has to stay, as any appearance from the likes of Captain America would surely only undermine the fact that this is Nick Fury's story.

However, we are now in a Marvel Cinematic Universe where the President of the United States has been attacked and probably killed by alien invaders. There is surely no way now that the likes of Captain America can't get involved. So, if the Avengers appear they undermine the story and its main character, but if they don't it will take one hell of an explanation. The writers are damned if they do and damned if they don't.
