Secret Invasion Episode 6 Review - 5 Ups & 4 Downs

4. Up - A Genuinely Surprising Switcheroo

Secret Invasion Nick Fury
Marvel Studios

MCU fans went into the very first episode of Secret Invasion knowing that they weren't to know who to trust. Within mere minutes this uncertainty was solidified by the reveal that Everett Ross was a Skrull, and by Gravik freely taking the form of the people around him at the episode's conclusion.

Between then and the finale, Talos had been killed because he trusted a Skrull in a human's skin he shouldn't have, and Rhodey was revealed to have been replaced by one of Gravik's shapeshifters. It was the selling point of the whole series that you couldn't trust anyone.

Even so, even after all of this and after knowing what was possible, the old switcheroo pulled in the season finale was still executed brilliantly. It was still a genuine shock that the Nick Fury speaking to Gravik was actually G'iah. No wonder he didn't recognise the villain's human face.

This may have taken away from the narrative of Fury vs Gravik somewhat, but it was a genuinely shocking moment, which isn't easy to produce. Plus, it gave the series more G'iah, which is always welcome.
