Seinfeld: 10 Worst Things George Costanza Has Ever Done

5. Making Up A Charity

Seinfeld George
NBC

When life gives George lemons, you can be sure he makes lemonade. After gifting the gang’s dentist friend Tim Whatley baseball tickets for Christmas, he is appalled to receive a charitable donation in his name by return. Rather than leave it at that, though, this gets George’s cogs whirring.

Soon, he has a great scam going at work: he concocts a fake charity (The Human Fund), and purports to have made donations in the names of his colleagues, while scooping up actual material gifts by return.

Things get more complicated when George’s boss, Mr Kruger, attempts to make his own donation of $20,000 to the charity. George is happy to pocket the payment (and even considers starting his own charity, so that his beneficiaries would owe him one), but the charade is uncovered before he can do so.

Unwilling to be bested, George leans on the religious persecution angle, claiming he celebrates Festivus, his father’s invented holiday. This leads to George and Mr Kruger spending the holidays at Frank and Estelle Costanza’s, so George gets his just desserts in a way.
