Seinfeld: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best

5. Season 7

Seinfeld shirtless
Sony Pictures Television

The last of the really great Seinfeld seasons. Also, the last season where Larry David was involved as head writer.

Season 7 has a very strong narrative running through the entire run, which is George's engagement to Susan, who he proposes to in the first episode. In true Costanza fashion, he spends most subsequent episodes trying to get out of it.

By this time Seinfeld was the toast of NBC and it had been a long run of just sheer quality, matched only by shows like Friends (though that dipped earlier than Seinfeld did) and The Simpsons (the first 10 seasons). The episodes still felt fresh and the direction they were heading in was narratively strong.

The only criticism of the 7th season is that it was getting more outlandish than previous seasons, though it is entirely forgivable.

To pick the strongest episodes from this season would require a whole article in itself, so to just single out one favourite from the run, we here will choose 'The Soup Nazi'. The episode has since become legendary for the fact that it was based on a real person called Ali Yeganeh and his business in New York City.
