She-Hulk: Attorney At Law Episode Four Review - 7 Ups & 1 Down

1. Up - Genuine Emotion

If you would have to describe She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’s first three episodes in just one word, there would be a few to choose from. Fun, goofy, entertaining, light-hearted. The list could go on, but what has been missing so far is genuine emotion.

In fairness, this is potentially to be expected from a courtroom comedy. However, this is still an MCU project. Some of the greatest moments in franchise history have been gut-wrenchingly painful, and some of the worst chapters in the story have been labelled so in part because there was no heart.

There was a moment in episode four that truly made fans feel for Jen for the first time. The way her transformation was handled, her being fired, and even to a degree the misogyny of the series have so far been treated with humour, but the morning after her hook-up was the first real sympathy fans could feel for her.

She thought she had found this amazing guy, who seemed to like her back, but his reaction to seeing her as Jen instead of She-Hulk was genuinely gutting. Who didn’t want to punch the idiot in the face as he fled Jen’s apartment? Whether or not there will be more moments like this in the series remains to be seen, but clearly the potential is there.
