She-Hulk: Attorney At Law Episode Seven Review - 6 Ups & 2 Downs

1. Up - Jen's Internal Conflict

At its core, this is what She-Hulk has been about. The conflict between Jen and She-Hulk. She may not have suffered with the same issues as Bruce did while trying to come to terms with being a Hulk, but that doesn’t mean that she hasn’t struggled.

Everybody has different sides to themselves, and everybody has insecurities. These insecurities are often what we focus on more so than anything, and it's even harder when forced to compare with someone else who seems to be doing so much better. Whether it is the more attractive, more athletic best friend, or anyone else, it's always easy to feel bad about yourself.

Jen was forced into that by having the person who made her feel like crap a literal extension of herself. The difference in how she is treated as Jen compared to how she is treated as She-Hulk is genuinely heartbreaking. Jen is a great character, a loyal friend, and a damn good lawyer, and yet all anybody wants is to see her Hulk out.

The emotion of this paradox was poured out by Jen in the group session, and it was impossible not to feel sympathy for her. Again, Tatiana Maslany knocked her performance out of the park, with the help of the group and of Blonsky as well. Everyone should feel the same way about Jen as her five new friends do.
