She-Hulk: Attorney At Law Episode Three Review - 4 Ups & 5 Downs
4. Up - More Of A Focus On Jen Than She-Hulk
Though the show is of course called She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and though Jen’s mind remains when she hulks out, unlike how Bruce was until Avengers: Endgame, there are two very different sides of the same coin in the series. So far, particularly in episode three, Jen has struggled with her Hulk identity, and simply wants to be an anonymous lawyer again.
No Hulk, no media attention because of her physical transformation, no ridiculous stories about her carrying Blonsky’s child. She was Jen before she was She-Hulk, and she is still that same person, though no one seems to care.
For all the excitement of another Hulk in the franchise, Jen herself is still a strong character, and Tatiana Maslany arguably does better work when she is in her human form.
Of course, there is the added bonus that while she wasn’t 6’7” and green there was no sub-par CGI to put up with, but the overwhelming plus here is that it focused on Jen as a person more, which is exactly what she wanted in the story.
