Sherlock: 10 Biggest Plot Twists
6. The Taxi Driver Is The Murderer – A Study In Pink
‘A Study in Pink’ was the perfect start to the show. As well as introducing us to the modern incarnations of Holmes and Watson, this episode also contained a thrilling mystery.
The central enigma of ‘A Study in Pink’ revolves around a series of unexplained deaths in which several people appear to have taken suicide pills in places they had no reason to be.
After tricking the murderer into returning to the location of his last crime, Sherlock and Watson are forced to chase a taxi across London in pursuit of their suspect. Yet when they eventually catch up to the taxi, Sherlock soon deduces that the passenger is definitely not a murderer. However, it is later revealed the murderer is in fact the cab driver.
The clever aspect of this twist is how it ties in with Sherlock’s earlier comments that the murderer was likely to be someone we trust even though we don’t know them, which is why he was able to obtain his victims so easily.
