Sherlock: 10 "Mouthwatering Ideas" For Upcoming One-Off Special

7. The Reappearance Of Irene Adler

Sherlock's treatment of Irene Adler is one of the most contentious aspects of the show's history. While many bought into the logic of making her a dominatix, using her sexual empowerment and mind games to confound Sherlock's deductions, others felt that Moffat's writing robbed the character of agency, reducing her to a victim who needed rescuing at the end. Depending on which side you fall down on, bringing her back is a great opportunity, either to fix old mistakes or to explore new territory. We already know from The Sign of Three that Holmes still thinks about 'The Woman', however disatisfying that brief appearance may have been. We also have no idea what became of her after Sherlock saved her in Pakistan. Perhaps she could be the one behind Moriarty's message? Or she has been recruited by Mycroft as a new way of keeping tabs on "brother mine"? There are so many possibilities here, and Lara Pulver is so charismatic in the part that it would be a shame if we never see her again.
