Sherlock: 10 "Mouthwatering Ideas" For Upcoming One-Off Special
6. A Real-Time Story (Sherlock Meets 24)
24 is now back on our screens, reminding us all how revolutionary its real-time approach seemed when it first aired in 2001. Several TV shows have copied the format since for individual episodes, including Doctor Who for the episode 42 and The Simpsons in its parody, 24 Minutes. Considering how modern and tech-savvy Sherlock is, it would be fascinating to see what a real-time episode would look like. The series has already toyed with ticking-clock puzzles in The Great Game, but these were puzzles that lasted multiple hours and could be intercut with other plot points. By giving Sherlock a case with a very specific timeframe, it would test his powers of deduction to the limit and show how much the slow pace of other people's lives truly gets in his way and on his nerves. Additionally, it would provide some compensation for fans who felt that the climax of The Empty Hearse (involving the bomb under Parliament) was not built-up or executed properly.
