Sherlock: 13 WTF Moments From The Abominable Bride

8. It Was All A Dream

When it was announced that the special would take place in Victorian times, fans devised theories about how it could fit into the series despite Moffat and Gatiss going on record saying that it would be a standalone episode, separate from the rest of the show. Naturally, this was a complete lie and around about the hour mark of the special it was revealed that the Victorian mystery had all taken place inside Sherlock's Mind Palace. Yep, it wasn't a standalone at all but rather an elaborate experiment of Sherlock's to deduce how Moriarty had come back from the dead. This was a twofold WTF moment as it was a jaw-dropping revelation that it was all an illusion, as well as the fact that such a reveal was made only two-thirds into the episode rather than at the climax. You really can't second-guess this show.
