Sherlock: Each Main Character Ranked From Worst To Best
5. Mrs. Hudson
You can call Mrs. Hudson whatever you like: loveable, a motherly figure, a landlady, just don't call her your housekeeper. While Mrs. Hudson also falls into the trap of feeling irrelevant to the plot at times, she gains a higher position on the list since her role is vital to the humanisation of the two leads, and the governing of 221b.
The character is played to perfection by Una Stubbs, who perfectly balances the matriarchal caring figure with a harsh and sarcastic personality. The Baker Street landlady isn't just a character there for the sake of comedy, as she acts as a vital piece of the detective puzzle. Mrs. Hudson shows the human side to the agency, as she often takes pity on it's clients and lovingly watches over the boys as they run their business.
There aren't too many drawbacks in regards to her performance or writing, as Stubbs makes the role easily loveable, which makes any thought of danger towards her thoroughly upsetting. The only limitations of the character come from her lack of impact on the mainline plot.
