Sherlock Showdown: Benedict Cumberbatch Vs. Robert Downey Jr.

1. The Best Death

We were all thinking it. In both mediums to tell the story, Sherlock faces an inevitable death. Which one took the cake? BBC Sherlock/Benedict Cumberbatch: If we€™re going by acting, this took the category by a long shot. We had two seasons of robotic Sherlock, before giving John a teary goodbye, and then falling off a building right in front of him. This was the beginning of a new human Sherlock, as he did it to save those who he believed were friends, and making friends he didn€™t even know he€™d have. The only thing that kept TV Sherlock-fans calm was that there was a promise of another season. Beyond the fact that Sherlock Holmes Doesn€™t Die, we knew there would be another season. In the back of everyone€™s mind we all knew; either from word of mouth or knowing the show was popular enough to come back, that Sherlock couldn't die. The television show also comes closer to the book in this specific time because both hero and villain €œdie€, but the movie comes closer, as in they fall into a waterfall, whereas Moriarty shoots himself (or does he?) and then Sherlock falls to his death. Sherlock Movies/Robert Downey Jr.: The one that this had going for it was that they basically had more of a budget to kill Sherlock with. While BBC Sherlock was working on a television show budget, in the movie they could do almost anything they wanted. What did they want? They wanted Sherlock to fall off a train and into the water and down a waterfall. The scene is the same as in the book, where Sir Conan Doyle writes Moriarty and Sherlock€™s death at the waterfall, whereas the television show used the play on words of the waterfall to illustrate a different scenario. The main difference besides the whereabouts between the movie and the book are the facts given on how Sherlock did actually stay alive. In the movie it is said that he used his brother€™s respirator, which he sends to John and then appears camouflaged in John€™s room (another candidate for a funny moment). However in the television show there€™s still debate on whether we were told the truth or not. Because of sheer "How-did-they-do-it?!" and the amazing acting along with it... Best Death goes to: BBC Sherlock/Benedict Cumberbatch. What are other scenarios the two Sherlock€™s faced, and who do you think did it better? Let me know in the comments!

I'm currently attending my local college while trying to figure out who I am. I love Doctor Who, Sherlock, really any BBC show. I've also been told I'm a bit of a nerd. Specifically, a theatre nerd.
