The Simpsons: 10 Greatest Movie Spoofs

4. Two Dozen and One Greyhounds

Doing a parody of 101 Dalmatians would be hard for many shows, but those shows don€™t have a character like Mr. Burns. He€™s a man who wouldn€™t mind having a coat made out of greyhound fur. He€™s also more than willing to sing about it, and his many pieces of attire made out of various animal material (including his hat, which we're reliably informed was once his cat). That€™s how €œTwo Dozen and One Greyhounds€ plausibly came to be, and ended up being rather humorous. Santa€™s Little Helper and another dog end up having some puppies, which causes problems for the Simpson family, naturally. In a bit that riffs more on sitcom tropes than movies, the dogs ruin a dinner which features Reverend Lovejoy, an IRS agent, and Homer€™s old Army captain as guests. The episode also includes perhaps sitcom history€™s only reference to Rory Calhoun. Sure, we never see any of the dogs aside from Santa€™s Little Helper again, but that€™s the nature of sitcoms. Just ask Roy.
