The Simpsons: 10 Times Homer Really Should Have Died

8. Hyper-Obesity And Exposure To Radioactive Gas

There's a running theme here: a unique combination of hunger and stupidity seems to land Homer in the worst possible danger. Working in a nuclear power plant for years should really have seen him off by now, but he's still going strong in season seven in "King Size Homer." After finding out a colleague is allowed to work from home on disability grounds, Homer makes it his mission to become disabled by injuring himself. After this doesn't work, he reads up on disabilities to see if he already has any - being disappointed when he doesn't. He then realises if he gains even more weight, he will be classed as hyper-obese, and achieve his dream of working from home. He sets out on his mission, eating everything in sight (including a play-doh donut). After gaining the weight and having a safety terminal installed at home, his sheer laziness endangers the whole town and he is forced to rush to the plant to shut down the core manually. Climbing a ladder, he reaches the manual override switch just as the ladder breaks under his enormous weight, sending him plummeting down into a tank of radioactive gas. Luckily, his ample ass plugs the hatch tight. Not only should Homer have developed severe health issues associated with being incredibly overweight, falling into radioactive gas really should have finished him off. But again, Homer's unbelievable luck meant that he was too big to fall completely into the gas, and his life was saved.
