The Simpsons: 10 Times Homer Really Should Have Died

7. Falling Down Springfield Gorge (Twice)

There aren't many men that could survive falling down a gorge. There are even fewer men that could survive falling down a gorge twice. But Homer manage to despite tumbling down the jagged canyon twice in a row. Homer accidentally winds up jumping Springfield Gorge whilst trying to stop Bart in "Bart the Daredevil". After almost making the jump, he plummets to the bottom, smashing his body over and over again on the unforgiving rocks. After falling for what seems like forever, he hits the ground. Lying there gasping for breath, the skateboard smacks him in the head, adding insult to injury. After being airlifted out on a stretcher, he is rushed into an ambulance which crashes into a tree, flinging the doors open and sending Homer falling down the gorge again. This time, he is strapped into a stretcher and has no way to even put his arms in front of his face - yet he still manages to survive. There's simply no way any human being could survive this kind of punishment, especially twice in a row, so unsurprisingly this is perhaps the most famous of all Homer's brushes with death. An early favourite, it's been referenced in a number of later episodes, and even in the Simpsons Movie, where you can see the ambulance that crashed still wedged against the tree that it hit.
