The Simpsons: 12 Supporting Characters Who Completely Steal The Show

3. The Spucklers

Spucklers The Spucklers, lead by father Cletus and perennially pregnant mother Brandine are the antithesis of the Simpsons - they are the real dysfunctional first family of America, though they are painfully unaware of their condition, preferring to look down comically on the Simpsons at times. Cletus and Brandine are the archetypal redneck family, perpetually dragging a massive brood of near feral children around, and bouncing from one gutter level job - from selling assorted animal parts to moonshine - but they're presented as simple, harmless folk. Cletus is clearly one of the show's favourite comic characters - he frequently appears to add one-liners, much like the Sea Captain and Hans Moleman - but his caricature is so grotesque, and so disarmingly charming that his appeal transcends even his comic impact. Thanks to the outrageous redneck stereotype, writers have been able to shoe-horn in some controversial jokes to Cletus' back-story, with the pinnacle being the suggestion that he and Brandine share parents. Selected Quote: "Hey, Brandine! I think I done busted my stinkbone."
