The Simpsons: 12 Supporting Characters Who Completely Steal The Show

8. Comic Book Guy

Comic Book Guy Like Snake, Comic Book Guy is one of those characters whose appeal is driven by his quotability factor - he is arguably the owner of the most quoted line in Simpsons' history in the "Worst Episode Ever" rant, which must surely have out-stripped "D'Oh!" and "Eat My Shorts" by now, and his snark is his biggest appeal. The owner of Android's Dungeon & Baseball Card Shop, Comic Book Guy, or Jeff Albertson who is markedly less interestingly named, is another caricature, this time based on "every comic book shop owner in America" according to the show's creators. Comic Book Guy is a thinly veiled jab at internet communities - his sanctuary is his comic book store, where he is the undisputed lord of his manor, able to exercise his inflated sense of power and self-worth, and draw out some measure of self-esteem, despite his status as an outsider to normal society. He is judgemental, stubborn and opinionated, and has been used as the voice of the faceless fan communities who point out continuity mistakes and plot holes in The Simpsons. Despite his role as the Great Snark of the show, Comic Book Guy has memorably been involved in two relationships - with Edna Krabappel and Agnes Skinner (making him a perverse mirror of Principal Skinner in some ways) and he does occasionally show some semblance of self-awareness, though it quickly tends to evaporate when he is back in the safety of his haven. Select Quote: "I adore Edna. She's near mint and comes from a very limited edition - females who will talk to me."
