There had previously been a couch gag featuring the Simpsons as bouncing balls, before popping out into their usual shapes, and years later, it was remade in clay-animation form to honour Gumby, the green clay humanoid character created and modelled by Art Clokey. Here, we see the Simpson family rolling around on the floor as amorphous blobs before morphing into their more familiar shapes one by one, until finally Gumby himself joins them at the end of the couch. Gumby was created in the early 1950's and has been the subject of a 233-episode series of American television, running until 2002.
