Every so often, The Simpsons takes you back down to the past, more often than not to examine Homer and Marge's courtship, or the early days of Bart and Lisa. Usually good for a laugh and a sentimental tug at the old heart strings, flashback episodes of The Simpsons are often some of the most beloved. Of course, they're not all hits. Even with a relatively small number of episodes out of the over five hundred outings in The Simpsons catalog, there are a few land mines to avoid (or ridicule in your best Comic Book Guy impression) along the way. Which were the best? Which were candidates for Worst. Episode. Ever? Take note - in ranking these episodes, only those whose primary focus is on the past will be considered. No momentary flashbacks will be examined. In short, the bulk of the episode needs to be set well in the past for it to be considered (that also excludes episodes that take place in the recent past, like Trilogy Of Error).
