The Simpsons: Ranking The Flashback Episodes

10. That '90s Show

It's no longer The Principal And The Pauper or Bart To The Future that many consider the worst episode of The Simpsons in its twenty-six years and counting history, but That '90s Show - a season nineteen retconning of the courtship of Homer and Marge that brings them into the 90s. No doubt hoping to appeal to a younger generation of fans nostalgic for the 90s era, the show was, without question, a swing and a miss. Not even a Weird Al cameo could save it, or the appearance of ageing MTV dinosaur Kurt Loder. The episode sees Homer playing a Kurt Cobain sort of role in a band called Sadgasm, and that's about the pinnacle of the humour you'll find within. The real affront of the story is how it steps all over the continuity of previous, and frankly much better, Simpsons episodes set in the past. Retconning Homer and Marge was just the worst idea ever.
