South Park Season 20: 5 Key Themes From Episode 3
3. Trump Doesn't Want To Win
Through the last series, the build-up to the presidential race was parodied with Mr Garrison taking the role of Trump (the Douche), ably assisted by Katelyn Jenner who the guys have regularly mowing down members of the public with impunity every time she gets in a car. In this episode we’re completely up to date and looking at the recent presidential debate. The "Douche", is up against Clinton's "poop Sandwich", a reference to the fact they are the most unpopular choices to run for president in years.
Mr Garrison has decided it's time to come clean and admin he has no idea what he’s doing. “I had no idea I would get this far and the fact of the matter is I should not be president, OK, I will f**k this country up beyond repair“. Later on we see him at a rally declaring how much of a jackass he is, how useless he is, how scared he is, how he hates everyone, yet the crowd lap it up. Even Randy, who was completely against him, finds himself strangely drawn to the “honesty” and how he “says what he feels”. Even an admission that if sent to negotiate with Putin he would “probably end up getting drunk and trying to suck his d*ck” doesn't do enough to put people off.
The guys are clearly saying what everyone else is thinking. Trump doesn't want to win and is doing everything he can to derail his own campaign. Many suspected he only wanted to be in the race, get some nice things said about him and then get out. The outrageous things he would come out with were really attempts to get him kicked out of the race in a way where he could claim to be the victim and just blame the media. But it didn’t work and he’s gone from strength to strength despite continuing to say things that any other candidate would find a campaign killer.
South Park puts a Douche up against a Turd Sandwich and this does quite accurately reflect the current state of American politics. One of the other points they make is about shy poop Sandwich voters who claim they're going don't want to admit they're going to eat the sandwich. Which they will.
