Space Force Review: 5 Ups & 3 Downs
1. Chan And Ali
Jimmy O. Yang and Tawny Newsome both shine individually throughout the season, but it’s when they get together where things start to get interesting.
Yang plays Dr. Chan Kaifang, a Space Force scientist and Mallory’s right hand man. He is an extremely intelligent astrobiologist who scores regular laughs with his sarcastic humour. Newsome took up the role of Captain Angela Ali, a helicopter pilot who usually gets stuck running errands for Naird.
The two don’t really interact ‘till the back of the season, when Ali asks Chan to tutor her so she can pass the exam and become an astronaut. The relationship quickly grows as she needs another favour from him. The drive back from the eye clinic, with the K-Pop dancing was so wholesome and left viewers desperate for more of the couple.
The pairing is actually set up a few episodes earlier when Chan’s computer was being searched. He insists he has nothing to hide, but they might learn a lot about the BWAM (black women, Asian men) movement. But, where the relationship goes next is a mystery. Ali is currently on the Moon and at war with the Chinese base, while Chan is still on Earth. Let’s all hope for a joyful reunion in season two.
And now to the negatives...
