3. The Maggie Mystery
As mentioned earlier, Naird’s wife Maggie (played by Lisa Kudrow) was in surprisingly few episodes. The promotional material pre-launch seemed to indicate Kudrow would feature regularly in the show, with high billing on the poster and trailer. Yet the show had a trick up its sleeve that no-one expected.
After the big move from DC to Colorado, we don’t see or hear from Maggie for a little while. Around half way through episode one, Naird visits a correctional facility to see an inmate. To the audience’s surprise, that inmate was Maggie.
Maggie’s time in prison is addressed quite often, with Naird and Erin both visiting her on a few occasions. We learn she has befriended someone called Louise and formed a close bond with her. This causes Maggie to offer the idea of an open marriage, much to Mark’s displeasure.
The season ends with Maggie escaping prison with her new partner, who turns out to be a correctional officer. They manage to find a helicopter which Mark and Erin are already in and the four decided to go on the run. Yet the reason for her incarceration is something that is never revealed.
