Squid Game Ending Explained: Why The Twists Work Better Than You Think
Il-Nam's True Role
Il-Nam's role seems to represent the richer class, similar to the VIPs - old, rich, powerful men who play with the lives of others out of sheer boredom.
Learning he was never in any real danger, or in the very least given a modicum of protection even while participating in the games, shows how rich people can certainly play at being poor ("poverty cosplay"), but are never truly suffering the same experiences.
If things were truly equal like the Front Man believed, Il-Nam would have been shot in the marble game, and not spirited away to die peacefully in bed.
