Why Gi-Hun Chose To Play Again
In his final game with Gi-Hun, the one Gi-Hun "wins", Il-Nam believes nobody will reach a hand out to save a poor man on the street below, but Gi-Hun still believes in the good in people, and that things can be changed.
These twists, and the series ending, in which Gi-Hun decides not to get on the plane to see his daughter, and instead turns back to try and stop a new Game from happening, frustrated many viewers.
However, Gi-Hun's decision, and his entire character, sends a powerful message:
Things can be changed, and life isn't hopeless, especially when those who achieve power choose to help those in need. Solidarity and empathy are the crux of Gi-Hun's character, and his survival represents hope, even in a series so dark.
