Squid Game: Every Major Death Foreshadowed
2. Kang Sae-byeok (Player 067) - A Quick Slash
Every death hit hard in the show, but none more so than the death of fan-favourite Kang Sae-byeok. Brought to life by actress Jung Ho-yeon, Sae-byeok was a defector from North Korea who hoped to win the Squid Game to pay for a better life for her and her younger brother.
Sae-byeok came extremely close after she made it to the unofficial penultimate round. She survived the glass bridge game, but sustained an injury in the process after a piece of glass became embedded in her abdomen.
Prior to the sixth and final round, the three remaining players were treated to a feast but as the feast was cleared away, the steak knives used were left on the table. The players' loyalty was tested once more and unfortunately, Sang-woo had become so corrupted by the thought of winning that he stabbed Sae-byeok in the neck, knowing she was too weak and injured to fight back.
Flashback to the short suspension that took place after the first round and you'll recall Sae-byeok visited an immigration worker concerning her payments. Convinced that she was being short-changed, Sae-byeok threatened the man with a knife to his throat. Of course, Sang-woo would later do this to her although in this instance, the result would be deadly.
