2. Harvey Keitel
Harvey Keitel has an interesting background. For one thing, he's a seasoned Broadway veteran, much like Shatner and Stewart (and several others featured on this list). Secondly, he's perhaps most famous for his roles in film as thugs or policemen. So what interest might he have in Star Trek? For one thing, it could break the image generally surrounding him. All actors fear being typecast, so appearing as the Captain of a starship could give him a new, more versatile image. Also, he has limited experience in one major field: television. Aside from appearing in the short-lived Life on Mars, all his experience on TV has been guest spots, so seeing him as the lead role in a Star Trek series could be a remarkable change. But what about if you're not going for a television series? With the newfound success of J.J. Abrams Star Trek, what if you need a guaranteed box office draw to play the lead in your movie? Who then?
