Star Trek: 10 Best Crossover Episodes

5. Relics (Star Trek: The Next Generation)

Relics was the final crossover episode that we saw on The Next Generation. It featured the return of Captain Montgomery Scott, played by James Doohan. It's a good one on many levels €“ one being the ingenuity of Scotty in saving himself in a transporter beam and the other being the introduction of a Dyson Sphere €“ something more recently introduced into Star Trek Online. The relationship between Scotty and Geordi La Forge is interesting to watch, but the highlight of the episode has to be the reappearance of the bridge from The Original Series on the holodeck €“ and of course, the way that Scotty requests it. This was a very well-written episode and it was obvious that the writers were having a great deal of fun €“ hence the drinking scene with Scotty and Data where the android attempts to describe a certain alcoholic beverage and can only say that "it is green". More than any other TOS appearance in TNG, Relics felt like a real passing of the torch between the shows. This is mostly due to those interactions between Scotty and La Forge €“ especially when Scotty explains to Geordi exactly how to make everyone believe that you're a miracle worker.
