Star Trek: 10 Best Ferengi Episodes
4. Deep Space Nine: Body Parts
Death rituals in Ferengi culture are incredibly interesting to say the least.
Upon death, the remains of the Ferengi in question are desiccated and sold in small portions as souvenirs. Depending on how notable the Ferengi is, they can actually be quite valuable artifacts. When Quark found out he was dying, he did this, selling the remains in advance of creating them to pay off his debts. Naturally, no one wanted them until one anonymous person bought them all.
Of course, Quark found out he wasn't going to die and as such had to break the contract. Unfortunately for him, the person who bought all of his remains was his old enemy, Brunt. Despite the fact that Quark wasn't going to die, Brunt insisted on delivery of what he was owed. When Quark refused, Brunt used the opportunity to crush him, taking everything that wasn't nailed down and making it so that no Ferengi would do business with him.
Since Quark's family were all atypical Ferengi, Brunt was always looking for any opportunity to take them down. This was the big one for him. It put Quark in his lowest place ever, destitute and without the vast majority of his business contacts. Fortunately, his non Ferengi friends stepped up and helped him out.
It was another wonderful glimpse into Ferengi civilization.
