Star Trek: 10 Bloopers You Need To See
3. Pre-Original Prankster
Oh, Enterprise! You were taken from us far too soon! If the untimely cancellation still rankles you after all these years, there are some rather fine bloopers you must see to lift your spirits.
Scott Bakula was well-liked by the cast. If you watch the Shuttlepod Show with Dominic Keating and Connor Trinneer, you’ll know that the two actors hold Bakula in high-esteem. His laidback and jovial demeanour shines through the screen in the hilarious Enterprise bloopers that are available to us.
In a season one outtake from Broken Bow, we see Bakula’s breadstick acting skills tested to the limit, for example. Equally, when he messes up a line, he usually brings out an array of impressions and silly voices – his Woody the Woodpecker is particularly good.
The fun atmosphere on set is most evident in the pranks Bakula plays on the cast, and the joy the latter get when they can pay him back. The season two gag reel contains almost an entire scene of uninterrupted (and quite serious) dialogue from the episode Dead Stop. Ensign Mayweather has just been freed from the grips of the alien repair station and is recovering in sickbay. Bakula delivers his lines as normal, and it seems odder and odder that this should be part of the outtakes. Then, just at the end, he adds to Mayweather: "We found the pictures in your room". Anthony Montgomery, who played the Ensign, is left (almost doubly) in stitches.
Presumably to get one up on the Captain, the season four outtakes show John Billingsley (Doctor Phlox) as he marches on set sporting a blond wig, whilst visibly 'pregnant'. He points at Bakula and shouts, "J’accuse…!” J’accuse…!" "Little Billy Bakula is going to know his Daddy".
