Star Trek: 10 Crazy Facts About Klingons

5. They're Passionate About Opera

Anytime there are Klingons around, the subject of Klingon opera gets discussed. Even when they're not around, their opera still comes up, often as a threat. The art form is not generally appreciated outside of Klingon circles, though it is highly celebrated in the Empire.

Stylistically, Klingon opera is similar to Human opera. The subject matter is similar, as well, focusing on star crossed lovers and combat. But their opera is far more bloody than that of humans, recounting many glorious battles in as romantic a fashion as possible. Their operas take the dramatic aspects of the genre to an entirely new level.

That's where the problem with Klingon opera comes up. For non Klingons, the music and singing can be considered horrifying, if not straight up damaging to the health of your ears.

For Humans, Bajorans and other species, Klingon opera is, without a shadow of a doubt, an acquired taste. Some of the few non Klingons to have a real appreciation were two of the Dax hosts, Curzon and Jadzia. Both of them had a deep appreciation for Klingon culture, Jadzia in particular had an odd fondness for their opera.
