Star Trek: 10 Crazy Facts About Klingons

2. Their Love-Making Is... Violent

When it comes to passion, Klingons take things to a new level.

Mating rituals between Klingons are violent and destructive, like everything else they do. Initiating courtship often involves the interested male to threaten and defeat another male in the female's proximity to show his prowess in battle. If that phase is successful, then begins the phase of the male reading Klingon poetry while the female throws objects at him angrily. Sex is an even bigger ordeal.

The level of violence involved in Klingon love making is incredible. On Deep Space Nine, two relationships involving Klingons happened at the same time. First, Quark and his Klingon ex-wife Grilka had sex, an experience that ended with Quark badly beaten and in the infirmary. Moments later, Jadzia Dax and Worf walked in with similar injuries.

At least Jadzia knew what she was getting into, and gave Worf as good a beating as she received. Quark just looked like a broken pile of bones and earlobes when it was all said and done.
