Star Trek: 10 Reasons Prodigy Is The Best Series Of The Kurtzman Era

Star Trek Prodigy
CBS

An overused concept namely thanks to Discovery also covering the topic at the beginning of its most recent season however, Prodigy made a more defined mark with Big Red, Jelly Man and Moustache among others.

Acting as the ultimate homage episode, the sixth story reintroduced the holodeck before dropping in the classic No Win Scenario. But how could this one episode make it onto the list? Because this time round viewers are treated to an amazing recreation of the Galaxy Class (Enterprise-D) bridge . Tackling Klingon Birds of Prey, Dal is obsessed with trying to beat the unbeatable. Incredible stuff with some clever turns on the way.

Made even more mind-blowing by his bridge crew comprising of Spock, Uhura, Odo, Dr Crusher and Scotty. Starfleet's finest are packed onto the ship with their words clipped from past appearances meaning viewers get to hear the late Leonard Nimoy, Rene Auberjonois and James Doohan once more. Even more fun is working out where all the clips are from.

While this episode helps develop Dal as the self-appointed captain, it pays red alert level fan service in such a way that viewers cannot help but fall in love with the results.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
