The perpetual learning process extended well beyond matters related solely to the station. It bled into other areas of their lives, both personal and cultural. While they pushed each other to new heights as leaders, they also had huge impacts on each other in many other ways.

While Kira wasn't necessarily planning on this, she learned a lot about the Federation and more specifically Earth culture. Sisko was obsessed with baseball, as well as cooking Creole and Cajun food. Learning about Earth culture helped Kira open up to other races that showed up on the station, too.

The effect of Kira on Sisko was even more pronounced in this regard.

Through his First Officer, Sisko learned more and more about Bajoran culture, so much so that he fell in love with the planet and its people. He even once told his superior officer that he considered Bajor his home and planned on retiring there. Sisko came a long way from the man who wasn't even sure he wanted to stationed there in the first place.
