Star Trek: 10 Secrets Of Deep Space 9 You Need To Know

2. There's An ATM On The Promenade

Rumors of a mythical ATM (automated teller machine) located somewhere on Deep Space 9 have floated around the internet for years, several sources citing its location as within Quark's Bar.

However, according Quark himself, Armin Shimmerman, DS9's ATM was actually located just outside the bar:

There is a Ferengi money machine on the set. It actually was not in Quark's bar, it's on the opposite wall. And when I first went to work and I looked at the set for the first time, I walked around the Promenade of Deep Space Nine, I remember being in awe of how wonderful it was. I thought "Oh, I wonder when we get to use this on the program." Never. It never showed up in any program. It was on the Promenade, somewhere in the hallway between the doorway to Quark's bar and the doorway to Odo's office on a wall. And we never went there. Not ever. And you know, I was asked before if there was something I would like to have taken... I would have liked to have taken that.

The ATM (if that's what it really was) was never seen in use, nor was any physical currency beyond gold pressed latinum ever seen exchanged on the station. However the ATM itself prominently displayed logos for the United Federation of Planets, Klingon Empire, Ferengi Alliance, Bajor, Vulcan, and the 1960s television series The Man from U.N.C.L.E. for some reason.
