Following the D'deridex-class warbird's numerous television appearances, a new Romulan warbird was introduced in Star Trek Nemesis. Designed by John Eaves, the Valdore-type warbird incorporated elements of Andrew Probert's original design (the distinctive bird head prow and double wings) and folded in parts of the venerable Klingon Bird-of-Prey (to please producer Rick Berman).

Star Trek Nemesis also featured a Reman warbird, the Scimitar, broadening the scope of the term "warbird" which had previously only referred to the iconic D'deridex introduced in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

After both Star Trek: Enterprise's pilot episode "Broken Bow" and 2009's JJ Abrams Star Trek reboot incorrectly referred to Klingon ships as "warbirds", the name seems to have become an umbrella term for all Romulan vessels.

In 2020's Star Trek: Picard, a total of three distinct Romulan ships have either been referred to as "warbirds" on-screen or in behind-the-scenes materials. These new warbirds included the small green craft seen in "Remembrance" (called "warbird" in storyboards, but also labeled "Romulan Bird-of-Prey"), the large gray fixed-wing craft first seen "Broken Pieces", and the even larger, more traditionally warbirdy ship commanded by Commodore Oh in "Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 1s and 2".
