Star Trek: 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Kai Winn

6. Life Support Was More Of A Mirror For Louise Fletcher Than We Ever Knew

Life Support, from the third season, closes the book on Bareil and Kira's love story, killing off the former - as the writers had run out of ideas for the character by that stage. While it would not be the final appearance of Philip Anglim, it would see the promotion of Winn to an even more important character in Bajor's politics.

That's not to say there wasn't suffering along the way. While Bareil lay dying in his bed, Louise Fletcher was suffering from a high temperature and laryngitis while filming. She recalled having to loop all of her dialogue after the episode had completed photography, which led to its own problems.

She struggled with some of the dialogue, particularly Winn's request to Dr. Bashir to replace parts of Bareil's brain. Far from finding the words difficult to say, Fletcher confessed she found the whole thing hilarious. Between initial filming, where she felt so rough that a producer actually said she shouldn't be on the set, to those recording sessions later on - Life Support was as much a trial for Fletcher as it was for Winn herself.
