Star Trek: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Guinan

8. Who's That Behind You?

Ten Forward, as depicted on the holodeck of the Titan-A, was a perfect recreation of Guinan's establishment on Earth. Picard was able to get the upper hand on Ro Laren by knowing where Guinan kept her guns, but it was a framed photograph that raised a few eyebrows (and antennae) in No Win Scenario.

Look closely at the wall and one can spot an Andorian wearing an Original Series era red uniform (gulp!). Therin's story actually begins earlier than this episode, as Ian McLean revealed on a forum post ahead of the season two premiere. McLean has a long association with Star Trek, stretching back to 1980.

He created the character of Therin and has made many live appearances as him in his native Australia, as well as many fan film spots as well. He played the character's father in the Starship Exeter episode The Savage Empire. McLean revealed that his photo as Therin, and of his other character Grol of Tellar, were added as set decoration to Ten Forward Avenue by none other than production designer Dave Blass.

Honouring expanded canon, and fan films and continuity, like this is something very Guinan - and was a truly heartwarming inclusion to the set.
