Star Trek: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Jake Sisko
4. Avery Took On The Role Of Mentor To A Young Cirroc Lofton
When asked about his time on the show, Cirroc Lofton often cites Avery Brooks, and the relationship he shared with him, among his favourite memories. As Cirroc was so young when the show began, Brooks stepped in to a paternal role. While he was certainly not his real father, he was fatherly toward him.
They would hang out between shoots, spending time together, and developing the relationship that would come across on screen. Ben and Jake feel real for a simple reason: they are real, or as close as two people can be while still retaining a professional relationship.
They would eat together. They would go to see basketball games together. They would vacation together. In essence, Brooks took his role very seriously, something that Lofton considers an important part of his own adolescence and journey into manhood. He describes Brooks as a gentleman through and through. As the years have passed, Lofton has also spoken about how the show, and particularly the hard-hitting scenes between he and Brooks, have only grown more relevant.
