Star Trek: 10 Things You Need To Be The Ultimate Starfleet Captain

3. A Right Hand Man

No one goes through life alone. You have a long voyage ahead of you so find someone to hang out by your side. Sure, the best of the best will move along on their own career path from time to time but make use of the time you have. The best partnerships develop over time. You will begin to finish each other's sentences, anticipate each other's decisions and in some cases flat out read each other's minds. This can be invaluable in times of stress when you just don't have time to do it all yourself. If you have a trusted Number One you won't have to worry about half of the decisions. They'll be made for you, just as you would have made them yourself. Sometimes they will even make the hardest decisions and/or sacrifices for you. These are the partners that make you better, that create a team greater than the sum of its parts. Maybe, just maybe, if you're lucky, your trusted Number One will remain in that position for many, many years, repeatedly passing up promotion after promotion for no apparent reason. Yeah, don't count on that last part - that would never happen either right?
