In the alternate Kelvin Universe, Captain James T. Kirk saved the Starship Enterprise by kicking a portion of the engine back into place. Because of his closeness to the dilithium that powers the engine, Kirk dies of extreme radiation poisoning, but not before saying a few goodbye words to his friend and second in command, Spock. The normally stoic Vulcan becomes so enraged at the death of his friend that he yelled the name of the architect of all the carnage that was befalling the Enterprise crew: KHAN!

Khan Noonien Singh escaped into San Francisco with Spock in pursuit of him. They ran through the streets and ended up on a pair of flying barges. They began beating each other violently. Singh attempted to crush the Commander’s skull, but he broke it with a mind meld. Spock used a nerve pinch but Khan painfully pulled his hand away.

Meanwhile, on the Enterprise, McCoy realized that a dead Tribble that he had previously injected with Khan’s blood had come back to life. Uhura beamed down to the fight and the pair were just beating on each other now. Uhura stunned Khan several times with a phaser as she begged the Vulcan not to kill him. Spock is so overcome with rage that he is nearly beyond hearing but, at the last moment, ripped a piece of metal from the barge free and knocked Khan out. McCoy used Khan’s “super blood” to revive Kirk.
