Star Trek: 10 Unique Next Generation Alien Races You Forgot About

7. Barash's Species - Future Imperfect

Barash's story is a lonely one though, when combined with Beta canon, it has a happy ending. He and his mother were the last two survivors of their race following an alien invasion. To keep him safe and entertained, she left him on Alpha Onias III, in a cave equipped with neural scanners.

He built elaborate fantasies but as time went on, and his mother failed to return, he grew desperately lonely. He attempted to trick Commander Riker into staying with him, casting him as his father in a holographic fantasy, before it all fell apart. Barash tried once more to convince Riker to stay, this time attempting to trick him into a very different, yet no less fantastical, scenario.

Once revealed however, Riker was far from angry. He brought Barash back up to the Enterprise with him. In the novel Losing The Peace, Barash befriends the crew, before going to work for an agency that helps re-home displaced aliens.
