The Allasomorphs of Daled IV had several other monikers, such as Daledians and, according to Beckett Mariner, Dauphins - though the latter was probably a nickname. The eponymous Dauphin of the episode's title was Salia, the heir to the Allasomorph throne.

Daled IV was tidally locked, much like the planet Remus. Two vastly different civilisations developed on both sides of the world, though were in a state of near-constant conflict. Out of war springs love, with a man from one side falling in love with a woman from the other. From their union came Salia.

She was hurried away to the planet Klavdia III, where she would remain for sixteen years, training to become the ruler of her planet. As an Allasomorph, she possessed shape changing abilities. She appeared as a humanoid woman when the Enterprise-D arrived to transport her, along with her guardian Anya, back home.

The Allasomorph's true form was similar to pure energy, though retaining a roughly human shape. They were unique amongst shapeshifters, requiring food and sleep, though were no less remarkable in their gifts.
