Star Trek: 12 Characters That Deserve Their Own Series

4. Surak - The Time Of Awakening

Star Trek Surak

One thing that is interesting to note: throughout the history of Star Trek we've only had a glimpse of the Vulcans. We have a lot more material on the Klingons, but very little on the Vulcans themselves. There's much more that we need to see (can see) and learn from that can be expanded from this world's tumultuous history, material that would illuminate centuries of back story for this amazing race of aliens we all love so much.

Considering that a series of just the Vulcans could potentially be bland, gives credence to why we (generally) see them in glimpses, and not in a series of their own. A prequel series would make the most sense. One that focuses on Surak, the father of Vulcan Logic. Including the spark for the event in their history called the "Time of Awakening" which led to the splintering of the Vulcan people. Causing a mass exodus into the stars, for a group of Vulcans who would later be known as Romulans. Who continued to embrace their emotions and their beliefs, away from Surak's Logic.

A series about Vulcans, prior to their logic, their emotional control, the wars they waged, and their conflicts would be amazing. Conflicts they bore with the Andorians €“ among other species €“ would be exceptionally welcome stories to watch unfold. Especially to see early Vulcans killing their enemies with Lirpa's in uncontrolled rage, would send chills down (virtually) any Trekkies spine. Add an elder Spock to the mix in the currently destroyed Vulcan continuity, place him in a setting where he educates young Vulcans on the history; the heritage of homeworld. Have Spock at the opening and ending of each episode beginning a narrative, prior to any flashback, and you have the recipe for an amazing series.

I'm a writer, a published author, and editor for a small independent publishing house. I'm an award winning producer of independent media, and I get to edit books, screenplays, and comics in my day to day. I love working on independent film & games, during my down time, as well as reviewing films while gobbling down milk duds (it's an addiction, I know). I've been called "Geek-Prime" among my peers for all the fandoms I work in, and I wear that title proudly. It's a passion, and an exercise in my growing profession, to get to write about what I love. Which happens to be a little of everything. But mostly film, comics, horror, games, anime, literature, and life. I do write about academic material, like politics, medicine, physics, and mathematics too. But for the most part, I like to keep things down to earth and simple. Follow me on Twitter & Facebook
