Star Trek: 12 Characters That Deserve Their Own Series

3. William T. Riker, Captain Of The USS Titan Or Admiral Riker?

Quite possibly, and arguably, Will Riker is one of the most popular characters from the last generation of Trek series. Sure, we all love Data, We love Picard, Seven, Janeway, Sisko, Worf., but Riker holds a very special place in most of the fandom. Possibly because he encompasses Picard and Kirk in one interestingly embodied and epically bearded package.

Jonathan Frakes brought this character to life very nicely, has written & directed many Trek episodes, and could easily build a new series with Bad Robot. Placing him at the helm as Captain, perhaps making him an Admiral with access to a Dreadnaught-Class ship, wouldn't be too far of a stretch. Many of the characters I mentioned above would easily integrate into a scenario with Riker as a main character. Even if the storyline maintains Riker as Captain of the USS Titan €“ which he took command of during the events of Nemesis €“ it would still be a welcome edition to the Trek Universe.

The character would be 74 when the new Odyssey Class Enterprise F is commissioned into service, so realistically he'd most likely be retired. But then again, Sulu commanded the Excelsior into his 100's. In truth, he'd serve best in cameo appearances as an Admiral for a new generation of characters, like Shon, or for a series showcasing Data during his time as Captain of the Enterprise-E. But there is still a mystique to Riker that would be great to continue to see on screen (again) in some form.

I'm an award winning producer of independent media, and I get to edit books, screenplays, and comics in my day to day. I love working on independent film & games, during my down time, as well as reviewing films while gobbling down milk duds (it's an addiction, I know). I've been called "Geek-Prime" among my peers for all the fandoms I work in, and I wear that title proudly. It's a passion, and an exercise in my growing profession, to get to write about what I love. Which happens to be a little of everything. But mostly film, comics, horror, games, anime, literature, and life. I do write about academic material, like politics, medicine, physics, and mathematics too. But for the most part, I like to keep things down to earth and simple. Follow me on Twitter & Facebook
