Star Trek: 12 Characters That Deserve Their Own Series

10. Captain Shon Of The Odyssey - Class Enterprise F

Star Trek Shon

There are a great deal of characters we've all grown to love in the Trek franchise. As much as we love all of these characters, we'd be remiss if we didn't consider the Enterprise, Voyager, and even the Defiant, among those characters. They've all been beloved throughout the lifespan of Star Trek, and took on a persona all their own.

Part of what makes these starships an amazing part of the show is its warp technology. Making travel and exploration of the galaxy, on such a massive scale, a possibility. It's the cornerstone of the entire franchise. Having said that, a "Next" generation series in the 25th century would be a great option with the next generation of ships taking center stage.

If you're a Star Trek fan, perhaps a casual viewer of the shows, you may have come across (maybe heard of) Star Trek Online (STO). This MMORPG pushes the continuity of Star Trek into the early 25th century. The newest incarantion of the Enterprise is an amazingly gorgeous, and ridiculously massive, starship in a new class called, Odyssey. As someone that plays this game with an avid amount of glee for the fandom, I can happily give praise to the designers of this class of ship.

Any number of existing characters from the ending story arcs of Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG), Star Trek Voyager (VOY), or even DS9 would be able to make appearances in this continuity; unless production takes place much farther in the future, keeping in line with the usual 100 year span between generations.

In the existing continuity, Captain Shon, an Andorian, was given command of the newly commissioned Enterprise-F. Data, who captained the Enterprise-E previously, gave Shon his blessing. Shon had been instrumental in the Dominion Wars, and believed it inappropriate to takeover the Enterprise, feeling it belonged to Data. If a series were to take place in the early 25th Century, the various exploits that Captain Shon, had undergone would be part of an amazing set of expanded Trek material.

If you haven't played this game, or are just unaware of its existence; give it a look, it's free, and you can pretty much live in most of the Trek universe. You can even pilot (virtually) every type of starship available, including some interesting new ones, in 2409.

I'm a writer, a published author, and editor for a small independent publishing house. I'm an award winning producer of independent media, and I get to edit books, screenplays, and comics in my day to day. I love working on independent film & games, during my down time, as well as reviewing films while gobbling down milk duds (it's an addiction, I know). I've been called "Geek-Prime" among my peers for all the fandoms I work in, and I wear that title proudly. It's a passion, and an exercise in my growing profession, to get to write about what I love. Which happens to be a little of everything. But mostly film, comics, horror, games, anime, literature, and life. I do write about academic material, like politics, medicine, physics, and mathematics too. But for the most part, I like to keep things down to earth and simple. Follow me on Twitter & Facebook
