Star Trek: 12 Characters That Deserve Their Own Series

9. Q - Before The Q Continuum Was A Continuum

Star Trek Q

One of the most interesting characters throughout all of Trek history is the enigmatic Q. The Q continuum itself is an even bigger mystery. Only giving the audience more questions. Questions like where did these beings come from, which species did they evolve from? If a series like this were to get made, what concepts would they touch on? To some degree, we've seen this type of being fleshed out in a science fiction series already. Chances are what we've seen of the ascended beings in Stargate SG-1 was (possibly) inspired by the presence of Q in TNG. These ascended beings €“ who virtually have no contact in the physical plane €“ are just as aloof and almost as omnipotent as Q. Even though we've seen something like this, a Series on Q itself would be completely unique.

While Q seemingly is always pointing our Trek characters toward a very powerful future, there's always been a lot of context and hints, from him, that humans will potentially ascend to the level of Q's existence. A series about who these omnipotent beings were prior to this evolution could (and would) be interesting. It may even be set during the times of the earliest empires in the galaxy, which could include appearances from the Promelians, Iconians, Tholians, Menthars, the TKon empire, and many others. The early Founders, or perhaps the Progenitors that seeded most of the Alpha quadrant, seen in the TNG Episode "The Chase", easily could be included.

Getting to see Star Trek from this point of view would be a great new approach, especially while focusing on a young version of the John De Lancie Q we all know and love.

I'm an award winning producer of independent media, and I get to edit books, screenplays, and comics in my day to day. I love working on independent film & games, during my down time, as well as reviewing films while gobbling down milk duds (it's an addiction, I know). I've been called "Geek-Prime" among my peers for all the fandoms I work in, and I wear that title proudly. It's a passion, and an exercise in my growing profession, to get to write about what I love. Which happens to be a little of everything. But mostly film, comics, horror, games, anime, literature, and life. I do write about academic material, like politics, medicine, physics, and mathematics too. But for the most part, I like to keep things down to earth and simple. Follow me on Twitter & Facebook
