Star Trek: 15 Best Holodeck Moments

4. Worst Case Scenario - Tuvok Turns The Tables

Star Trek Voyager Worst Case Scenario

This episode, though featuring the returning threat of Seska, was conceived as a comedy. Having Paris and Tuvok work together on scripting the end of the training program featured many nods to previous holodeck stories.

The episodes biggest success though is the return of Martha Hackett. There had been a slight anti-climax in the demise of Seska in Basics, pt 2. There wasn't much to do with the character from that point, in terms of exploring any backstory in the way that Star Trek does so well. Having her return here in full villainous role, appearing as she had in the first season in her Bajoran guise, allowed the actress to have much more fun than before.

It also fell into a good time for her. She had given birth to her son several months earlier and was more comfortable running around the sets with a few months of downtime. Hackett felt that this was a more successful outing for the character in the third season, something that the fans would really enjoy. She also felt that this would be the final appearance of Seska, as there was little in the way of a cliffhanger ending - though she would return in the seventh season episode Shattered.

Ultimately, this episode was considered a success by all involved. Robert Duncan McNeill thoroughly enjoyed acting alongside Tim Russ here and Kate Mulgrew considers it one of her favourite episodes of that seasons selection.
