The trailer ends with Mariner being hauled off to the brig on the orders of her mother, Captain Freeman.
One of two security officers arresting Mariner (and placing her in the brig as we see at the beginning of the trailer) is an unnamed officer who appeared in the background of several episodes of Lower Decks. Back when the show was airing, we identified this security officer as a Xahean in our breakdown of the episode "Envoys", but he's actually an Antaran.
Don't remember the Antarans? Neither did we, but they're a one-off species who appeared in the second season episode of Star Trek: Enterprise called "The Breach".
This is the kind of deep cut, deep love of Star Trek that we've come to expect from this show and it's why we'll be tuning in when Star Trek: Lower Decks returns to Paramount Plus on August 12.
